POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN THEORETICAL ASTROPHYSICS

Department of Physics

University of California, Santa Barbara

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in theoretical astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Barbara. The successful applicant will work with Prof. S. Peng Oh on topics broadly related to the intergalactic and intracluster medium, including AGN feedback, plasma processes in galaxy clusters, galaxy formation, hydrogen and helium reionization, and 21cm cosmology. Computational expertise is considered a plus. The appointment is initially for two years, with a possible third year extension depending on performance and funding. The UCSB physics department and the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) host a strong and stimulating research environment. Of particular interest may be an upcoming KITP program in Jan-April 2011 on "Galaxy Clusters: The Crossroads of Astrophysics and Cosmology".

The appointment is expected to start on or before Sep 1 2010 and requires the completion of a PhD.  The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research.  Applicants should submit a statement of research interests, publication list, CV, and should arrange for three letters of reference to be sent by email to postdoc-search@physics.ucsb.edu.  Materials should be sent as a pdf with “Theoretical Astrophysics Postdoc” in the subject line. Review of applications will begin on December 1, 2009 and continue until the position is filled.

An EO/AA Employer.
