POSTDOCTORAL POSITION

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

Area of Specialization:  Planetary Physics

The position is open until filled; but materials should arrive by the deadline to ensure full consideration.

A postdoctoral position in planetary physics is available for two years starting sometime in the spring or summer of 2008. The successful applicant will work with Stan Peale in subject areas described herein. Additional years may be possible depending on successful acquisition of funding. The position requires training in celestial mechanics and classical physics, experience with numerical integration techniques (N-body code experience highly desired), and an ability to work independently. Considerable freedom to pursue problems of the can didate’s choice related to the origin and evolution of solar system configurations, dynamical constraints on planet and satellite properties, origin and evolution of planetary systems in general, and dynamical clues to the existence of and constraints on the properties of planets around other stars will be encouraged. The Las Cumbres Observatory that is associated with the Physics Department is actively involved in the observations of extra-solar planets.

Please send by email in pdf format, a résumé, a one page summary of previous research high lights, a statement of research interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to arrive by the March 1, 2008 deadline to postdoc-search©physics.ucsb.edu with Planetary Physics Postdoc in the subject line.
