The Costello Lab at the University of California, Santa Barbara seeks two post-doctoral researchers in resource economics to begin Fall, 2008. A research emphasis on property rights and renewable re and/or bioeconomics of stochastic systems is desired. Attractive research foci include spatial property rights and resource use, transferable quotas, small-scale fisheries, and spatial bioeconomics. The candidates will collaborate with the Sustainable Fisheries Group, a multidisciplinary (economics, ecology, and policy) partnership between University of California, Santa Barbara and Environmental Defense to help inform market-based approaches to fisheries management reform. Additional collaborations with NSF biocomplexity project personnel are also a possibility. Within these broad themes, the candidates will be given considerable flexibility to pursue his or her own research interests.
Successful applicants will have a PhD in economics or related discipline by September, 2008. PhDs in ecology, fisheries science, or related disciplines will be considered if the candidate has exceptionally strong quantitative skills and sufficient knowledge of economics. The candidate should have a demonstrated interest and aptitude for bioeconomic modeling and/or empirical bioeconometrics.
