Instructional Development at the University of California Santa Barbara is pleased to announce an open position for an Instructional Consultant. Come work with a talented and experienced team of instructional consultants and production professionals in one of the oldest instructional development organizations in higher education in the country. This coordinated team works directly with our world-class faculty to assist them in realizing their goals for developing high quality, and highly effective, instructional approaches and materials. One of our goals is to help faculty effectively incorporate the results of their cutting edge research into the undergraduate curriculum.  If you enjoy a fast-paced, energetic, and very collegial work environment, consulting with faculty from all disciplines on all aspects of teaching and learning, this is the place for you.

 

The successful applicant will have outstanding organizational, presentation, writing and interpersonal communication skills. Applicants should have demonstrated expertise in either technology mediated teaching and learning, student outcomes assessment, or course and curriculum evaluation, or any combination of the above. Applicants are expected to have experience in fundamentals of good teaching practice and the ability to effectively communicate those practices within the context of instructional development projects, workshops and forums, as well as individual faculty consultations. Applicants are expected to have a strong background in post-secondary instructional theory and design; particularly within the context of a large research institution. An advanced degree is expected, Ph.D. preferred, any academic discipline will be considered. In addition, it is highly desirable that applicants have some experience teaching in a research university, and some experience with data analysis and report writing. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through the support of teaching and service.
