POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS

INSTITUTE FOR COMPUTATIONAL EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE

Area of Research: The effects of nanomaterials (NMs) in the environment, at scales ranging from cellular processes, to population and community dynamics, to transport and fates in ecosystems.

A multidisciplinary team of scientists is seeking several postdoctoral-level fellows to study the effects of nanomaterials (NMs) in the environment, at scales ranging from cellular processes, to population and community dynamics, to transport and fates in ecosystems. The specific project opportunities will depend on the interests and experience of the applicant, but include: NM interactions with prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; impacts of NMs on whole-organism fitness and population dynamics, mesocosm studies detailing the effects of NMs on terrestrial ecosystems and freshwater and marine food-webs, and fate and transport studies tracking the aggregation, deposition and environmental reactions of NMs.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in environmental engineering, ecology, environmental microbiology, molecular biology, environmental chemistry, or toxicology, and have demonstrated experience in related research, and a record of communicating research results.

The position will be available starting October 1, 2008, subject to receipt of funding from NSF, and is full time with a salary of $41,496-$47,328 (plus health benefits) depending on experience. The initial appointment is for 1-year on this multiyear project; continuation beyond 1 year will be based on performance. Applicants should submit a CV, a statement of research interests, and the names of three referees to imelda@icess.ucsb.edu. Initial review of applications will begin on 21 August 2008, however the positions will remain open until filled.
