FULL/PART TIME LECTURER POSITION

DEPARTMENT OF EAST ASIAN LANGUAGES AND CULTURAL STUDIES

 

Area of Specialization:  Japanese Language

 

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultural Studies at University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for an anticipated full-time/ part-time instructor position in Japanese for the academic year 2009-2010. Apply by February 20th for primary consideration, however, position will remain open until filled. Formal appointment is contingent on budget approval. The appointments are potentially renewable on a yearly basis subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

 

Applicants should have a Master's degree in Japanese language pedagogy, Japanese linguistics, TESOL or other relevant areas. Native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English; experience in teaching to English-speaking students at college level at least three years (or extensive experience in teaching to English-speaking students at college level); and a vibrant teaching style. Experience in teaching more than one level including advanced level is preferred.

A good team player is strongly desired. Candidates with computer skills will be considered favorably. The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.

 

Duties: To teach eight classes per year of Japanese language courses at all levels (elementary to advanced). The instructor is also expected to assist in curriculum development, and TA supervisions. The program website can be viewed at http://www.eastasian.ucsb.edu/projects/ejapanese/

 

The salary is based on U.C. scale and depends upon qualifications. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to U.C. policy and any appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
